Sailing Sub-section
Sailing is a fun way for all ages to get fit, make friends and escape from day-to-day worries and concerns. You don't need to be fit or able-bodied, you don't even need to be a strong swimmer, as long as you are comfortable with being in the water in a buoyancy aid. But if you need a proper workout racing or windsurfing will stretch your levels of physicality.  Whether you want to learn, are a pro or just want to have a muck around out on the water our club offers a fantastic opportunity covering you, your spouse, partner or guest and children up to the age of 18!

About the Location

You can sail at Queen Mary Sailing Club (QMSC) near the former Bedfont location, (10 mins from M25 J13) whenever you want throughout the membership year (until 31st March 2022), with access to the IBM equipment at no additional charge (Xenons & Laser) and discounted access to QMSC equipment, including paddle boards and windsurfing kit.

About the sailing sub-section

You can sail on your own or in a group at one of the IBM specific member days or join the QMSC Saturday Club, which runs every Saturday. Receive discount on courses run by QMSC, including introduction to sailing, training for RYA or children's courses on weekends or holidays.

Why join?

After months spent indoors, it's time to enjoy the great outdoors! Whether you want to start a new hobby this spring, long for some peace on the water or are after a great time with your loved ones, sailing is the thing to try!

See what IBM Sailing Club members have to say.  And don't miss our Taster Sessions in May and June - look out for more information in April or enquire with club contacts below.

"It's the best kept secret!  A fantastic opportunity to sail and try other water sports at a fraction of a cost."

"It's a school holidays lifesaver!  I can stop multitasking and focus on work, knowing that my child is having fun while learning skills for life rather than sitting in front of the screen."

"I was impressed by the professional, friendly and caring attitude of the instructors and reassured by their focus on safety and a high staff to children ratio."

The Sailing section has its base at Queen Mary Sailing Club in Staines, just 5 minutes drive from IBM Bedfont.  Queen Mary offers an exceptional sailing area raised above the surrounding land and nearly a mile across.  This provides lots of space for learning, blasting or racing and with very consistent wind for quality sailing.  IBM has its own dinghies that qualified members can take out as they wish.  Those learning will be given assistance to choose courses and develop their skills by sailing with more experienced members.  If you have your own boat you can also keep it and sail it at Queen Mary, subject to dinghy park space being available.

In addition the Sailing Sections offers:

QM Saturday Club every second Saturday from April through November.  Come along and sail in a friendly group
Introduction to Dinghy Sailing  half day sessions to give you a taster.
Subsidised Basic Training at Queen Mary Sailing Club – discount off list price on all courses
Subsidised Advanced Training at Queen Mary Sailing Club –  discount off list price on most courses
Subsidised Kids Activities and Summer Fun Weeks run by Queen Mary Sailing Club – also at a discounted price

and  members get the use of our kit at Queen Mary Sailing ClubXenons and Laser Dinghies, as well as bouyancy aids, wetsuits and helmets, if required.

Membership is incredible value at just £10 for both crews and helms this year.  Complete and return the form (attached below) and make your payment to get started.  The membership year runs from 1st April to 31st March.  You need to be a member to be insured.

N.B. "Helms":  Those people signed-off to helm the Dinghies;  "Crews":  Beginners sailing with experienced helms.
